The Asi language[4]=20 is a regional=20 Visayan=20 language spoken, along with Romblomanon=20 and Onhan,=20 in the province of Romblon,=20 Philippines. Asi = originated=20 in the island of Banton,=20 Romblon and spread to the neighboring islands of Sibale, = Simara, and = the towns=20 of Odiongan=20 and Calatrava=20 on Tablas Island. = The Asi=20 spoken in Odiongan is called Odionganon, Calatravanhon in Calatrava, = Sibalenhon=20 in Concepcion, Simaranhon in Corcuera, and Bantoanon in Banton.
Specifically, it is spoken on the following islands within = Romblon:
- Tablas:=20 the = municipalities=20 of Odiongan=20 and Calatrava, = situated respectively on the western and northern parts of the island. = The=20 Odiongan dialect has more outside influences and is more widely used = in=20 literature.[5]
- Banton:=20 the island's sole municipality of Banton.
- Simara:=20 the island's sole municipality of Corcuera.

Linguist David Zorc notes that Asi speakers may have been the first =

speakers in the Romblon region. He =

suggests that Asi may have a Cebuan substratum and =
that many of=20
its words may have been influenced by the later influx of other =

as Romblomanon.

Sounds[ edit]
Asi has fifteen consonant phonemes: p, t, k, b, d, g, m, n, ng, s, h, = w, l, r=20 and y. There are three vowel phonemes: a, i/e, and u/o. The vowels = i and=20 e are allophones, with i always being used when it is the=20 beginning and sometimes end of a syllable, and e always used when = it ends=20 a syllable. The vowels u and o are allophones, with = u=20 always being used when it is the beginning and sometimes end of a = syllable, and=20 o always used when it ends a syllable.[clarification=20 needed] This is one of the Philippine languages = that do not=20 exhibit [=C9=BE]-[d] allophony.
